Bubble tea shops are branching out from their matcha and hōjicha flavoured soft serves to other tea flavours, with our latest experience being the Golden Oolong Soft Serve from King T ($6.80, available at Parramatta and Eastwood stores).
It’s a golden oolong flavoured soft serve that’s been drizzled with brown sugar and topped with tapioca pearls. Upon tasting, the characteristic smooth floral notes of the lightly oxidised oolong came through mellow in the creamy soft serve but become dominated by the bold sweetness of the brown sugar syrup. We enjoyed the chewy texture of the pearls but found the syrup excessive.
