Nestlé, the parent company of Nespresso, launched a new range of compatible capsules targeted towards mass-market distribution in a similar vein to the recent Starbucks by Nespresso range. These capsules are less premium than the Nespresso line, but also produced in Switerzland, and are available first in Australia and New Zealand — a true rarity that our markets are experiencing the release first!
This Nescafé Farmers Origins Brazil Lungo is the first of five in the range.
The coffee is a medium roast with an intensity of 8 out of 13 and comes in a bright green capsule. Unlike the Nespresso and Starbucks by Nespresso capsules, there is no text to identify the type of coffee within.
Prepared as a lungo, it is a deep black colour with a roasted coffee aroma. Upon tasting, acidic notes are bold at the head of each sip before the toasted notes came through in the body with a gentle bitterness. The acidity recedes towards the end of the body to leave a cereal finish that lingered with a hint bitterness in the aftertaste. The acidity, bitterness and roastiness are well balanced, but I prefer the added depth and restrained acidity of the darker roast in the Starbucks by Nespresso Caffè Verona, which is also 100% Arabica.
This Nescafé Farmers Origins Brazil Lungo contained 10 x 5.2 g capsules. It was produced in Switzerland and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2020.
