These Barilla Mulino Bianco Pan Di Stelle are cocoa biscuits with iced sugar stars. Their name, pronounced pan-dee-stel-eh, means ‘bakery of the stars’ in Italian.
These cookies are almost 5 cm in diameter and about 5 mm in height with a sweet aroma. Upon tasting, these cookies are feather life with a dry, fine crumb, and have minimal sweetness and a deep cocoa flavour — much like the cocoa cookies in an Oreo but with a touch more sweetness and a tad drier. As we crunch through these biscuits the fine crumb dissolves in our mouth as they pick up moisture and form a smooth creamy mouthfeel with the iced sugar stars adding an additional crunch and touch of sweetness to balance the darkness of the cocoa.
With these cookies being the last of the three flavours released in Australia, we can conclude we’re huge fans of Italian cookies so far.
