We discovered Brothers Basket when T almost walked into it by mistake during our recent visit to Social Hideout. They’re right next door to each other at the Entrada Centre in Parramatta.
N and I both chose the Pot of Gold ($18.00), which consisted of 2 poached eggs, roasted kumara, grilled halloumi, avocado, roasted mushrooms, house pickles and beetroot hummus with multigrain bread.
This bowl was a delightful party of textures and flavours, from the soft and runny poached eggs, the sweet and tender sweet potatoes, the dense and salty halloumi, the smooth and creamy avocado, the umami-packed mushrooms, the crisp tang of the pickles and the nutty and earthy hummus, all topped on a crunchy slice of bread. It was a very wholesome and satisfying brunch dish.
And this is T’s Smoked Brisket Hash ($19.00), which consisted of 14-hour slow-cooked pulled brisket cooked in smokey BBQ sauce, heirloom tomatoes and carrots, sauteed garlic butter broccolini, potato gems, a fried egg and sourdough toast.
The pulled brisket in the smokey BBQ sauce was punctuated by the intensely sweet acidity of the cherry tomatoes and paired well with the crisp potato gems and the freshness of the broccolini.
As for their drinks, this Iced Long Black ($4.50) was sorely under-extracted with prominent acidity and tasted bad generally.
N’s Iced Coffee ($6.50) was similarly disappointing, with the addition of the milk and ice cream doing little to improve the flavour and body of the coffee.
We enjoyed the varied food at Basket Brothers, but the coffee game was very poor.
