Harvey’s Hot Sandwiches opened in Parramatta in an attempt to bring back ‘real sandwiches’. Their sandwiches are quite a hit with office workers so N and I took the chance to see if it was worth the fuss.

This is the No 8 Parmigiana ($14.00, wholemeal), which consisted of a herb crumbed chicken breast, roast garlic butter, marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese.
The mozzarella cheese gave a delightful stretch when separating the two halves of the sandwich, while the marinara sauce was sufficiently thick to keep each bite rather tidy and the chicken was moist and tender, despite being breast. The bread, though, was a disappointment and evident from the cross-section — it was not thick nor fluffy inside nor crisp on the outside as promised. Overall, the sandwich was pleasing but lacked freshness. The sandwiches at Subway and the Parmi Burger from McDonald’s are more satisfying.

This is the No 6 Nashville Hot Chicken ($16.00, wholemeal), which consisted of buttermilk fried chicken tenders, vinegar slaw, pickle, and comeback sauce (damn hot).
The chicken tenders were tender and juicy with the ‘damn hot’ comeback sauce delivering a notable heat. This is the middle strength, with the WTF hot, likely the one to choose if you’re after a sauce that slows you down with a steady burn. The rest of the sandwich, though, was a let down with the acidity from the vinegar slaw and the pickle, however, being overwhelming rather than refreshing and the bread also suffering the same squashed un-crunchy fate as the previous.
Overall, we can see Harvey’s Hot Sandwiches as a convenient destination for office workers in the area, but it’s not a destination.
Harvey’s Hot Sandwiches is located at 4.05, 12 Darcy Street, Parramatta NSW 2150.
