Pleased with the Nongshim Shrimp Cracker Mayonnaise Wasabi, but surprised that they were described as being the ‘original’ flavour on the Nongshim Australia website, we tracked down these Nongshim Shrimp Flavoured Cracker in the red packaging with which we were familiar.
These crackers were about 4-5 x 0.7 x 0.5 cm, dusted in fine salt dust, and with a puffed rice aroma. Upon tasting, the cracker was less dense than the Hanami Prawn Crackers, but had a firm crunch with numerous large air pockets that gave the sensation of eating puffed rice cereal. The seasoning was chiefly a mellow savoury flavour that left plenty of room for the rice notes to dominate. While shrimp was the third ingredient listed, there was no percentage listed, and the flavour came through only briefly towards the finish.
The overall impression of the cracker was a rather passable puffed rice snack that’s been dusted in savoury seasoning. The stark contrast between the quality and flavour of this product and the Nongshim Shrimp Cracker Mayonnaise Wasabi had us having trouble believing they’re both made by Nongshim in Korea. Perhaps the fact that this was made as an export product, rather than for domestic sales made all the difference.
This Nongshim Shrimp Flavoured Cracker contained 75 g. It was produced in South Korea and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2022.
