Senjaku Naoshichi Cough Drops

These Senjaku Ame Naoshichi Cough Drops use naoshichi, a kind of sudachi citrus from Kōchi prefecture in Japan that is often called ‘phantom citrus’ because of its rarity.

It contained naoshichi juice from Sukumo City in Kōchi Prefecture and added vitamin C and herb extracts.

These cough drops are an opaque green colour, about 1.5 cm in diameter and 0.8 cm in height. The naoshichi sudachi is known for its mild acidity, but on tasting, the drops have an intensely salivating and almost jaw-aching initial acidity. Once our palates adjust, though, the acidity is milder than other kinds of citrus — it is aromatic with the vibrancy of yuzu but without its bold acidity and bitterness, and has a more delicate flavour profile than a lime. Overall, we enjoy the flavour of these cough drops.

This Senjaku Ame Naoshichi Cough Drops contained 80 g or 20 pieces. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2022.
