Moo’ed Ice Cream initially established its presence with its debut store in Gordon. While it had caught our attention for some time, the opening of a second branch at Macquarie Centre in January 2023 brought us delight, given its earlier operating hours and enhanced accessibility. While Kirin Ice Bar concentrated on East Asian influences in its flavours, Moo’ed Ice Cream leaned more towards the realm of South-East Asian tastes, with a particular emphasis on Filipino inspirations.
Calamansi ($18.50 for 500 mL). The gelato had a noticeable calamansi flavour that tantalizingly combined the tartness of lime with the delicate sweetness reminiscent of mandarin. When compared to the yuzu sorbet, which we had sampled prior to making our purchase, the calamansi exhibited a greater tartness along with more subdued floral undertones. The gelato itself was creamy and smooth, though lacking any added textural elements from the zest. We derived immensely enjoyed the citrusy and floral character of this unique flavour, currently exclusive to Moo’ed. The growing availability of Asian-inspired gelato options is truly exciting, and we eagerly look forward to revisiting for a taste of other enticing flavours.
