Each bag featured the distinct citrus flavours of three varieties: Yuzu, Unshū Mikan, and Iyokan. The flavours were evenly spread in the bag (18:19:20).
The back of the packaging indicated the balance of richness, sweetness, and acidity in each variety.
Yuzu. The candy featured a smooth off-white exterior that swiftly dissolved to deliver the fragrant floral notes of yuzu. Subsequent chews of the translucent gummy centre unveiled a juicy burst of the citrus fruit’s flavourful juice with a refreshing sourness to complement the floral notes. Among the three flavours, yuzu offered the richest taste, striking a wonderful balance between sweetness and sourness.
Unshū mikan. This one featured an opaque orange exterior with an translucent orange interior. The mikan flavour was exceptionally rich in sweetness. Its smooth outer coating dissolved quickly upon contact with the palate, leading to a gummy interior that released a progressively juicy and indulgent sweetness reminiscent of fresh mandarins. Among the three flavours, this one stood out for its rich sweetness, resulting in a highly enjoyable experience.
Iyokan. The exterior was an opaque yellow hue while the gummy interior was a translucent yellow. The external shell highlighted the tartness of the iyokan fruit before biting through the gummy center released the wonderfully fragrant essence of the iyokan’s flesh. The sweetness, while refreshing, also helped balance out the initial tartness, adding a delightful richness to the overall taste.
In summary, these gummies were exceptionally satisfying, with each flavour distinct and highlighting the unique characteristics of its intended taste. Their flavour and texture, featuring a subtle crunch from the smooth exterior that quickly melted on the palate, followed by a soft and elastic interior delivering a second layer of the intended flavour, were flawless and unparalleled in the realm of jellybeans and gummies.
