This is the Lavelee Cheongdo Soft Persimmon Bingsu. It was made with Korean persimmons, a fruit highly cherished in Korea, making it an appealing dessert choice.
The top half of the tub contained sweetened persimmon purée with ice flakes distributed throughout, akin to the style of Akagi Nyugyo GariGariKun or Ohayo Smooth Ice Bars, while the base consisted of a condensed milk flavoured ice cream.
The persimmon flavour was reminiscent of the fruit itself, offering a gentle sweetness akin to honey, and the persimmon’s texture resembled that of a ripe cantaloupe or apricot, soft and tender. However, it lacked the distinct taste of cantaloupe or apricot. Within the persimmon purée, alongside the crunch of the ice flakes, a few rice cake pieces added an enjoyable chewy texture and a notable sweet rice flavour. On the other hand, the condensed milk-flavoured ice cream had an excessively strong dairy flavour that disrupted the fruitiness of the persimmon, contributing more sweetness when a touch of acidity would have been more suitable to balance the overall sweetness of the dessert. This particular dessert is not something we would consider repurchasing.
This Lavelee Cheongdo Soft Persimmon Bingsu contained 260 mL. It was produced in South Korea and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2023.
