This is the Suntory -196°C Autumn Apple, one of three flavours released to celebrate the autumn season in 2023. The can featured stunning illustrations capturing the essence of autumn fruits and the season.
Using san tsugaru apples from Aomori Prefecture, this chūhai was created using Suntory’s ‘-196°C manufacturing method’, which involves crushing the frozen fruit to maintain its fresh flavour.

The chūhai had a clear, pale yellow hue, and emitted a sweet aroma reminiscent of fresh apples, accompanied by a gentle carbonation. Served chilled, it immediately offered a prominent apple flavour, akin to freshly squeezed apple juice. The taste commenced with a crisp sweetness that evolved into a richer honey-like sweetness in the body, before a subtle hint of acidity emerged, enhancing the juiciness of the apple flavour. The experience concluded with a clean finish, courtesy of the effervescence of the bubbles.
The bright apple flavour effectively masked the alcohol content, with minimal bitterness and only a subtle hint of artificial sweetener lingering in the finish. Overall, this chūhai provided a delightful experience that authentically captured the well-balanced flavour of sweetness and sourness of san tsugaru apples.
This Suntory -196°C Autumn Apple contained 350 mL. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Hong Kong in 2023.
