Bourbon Mochi Truffe Chocolate Kagabō Hōjicha Latte

This is the Bourbon Mochi Truffe Chocolate Kagabō Hōjicha Latte. It incorporated 0.6% kagabō hōjicha, a roasted twig tea from the Kaga region in Kanazawa. Notably, the twigs and stems, being thicker than the leaves, demand higher heat for roasting. The intensified heat process quickly extracts the robust aroma of the hōjicha, resulting in a much stronger fragrance compared to the standard method.

Each box contained 2 individually sealed bags.

Each bag contained 4 pieces as well as a mini bamboo utensil. Each piece was spherical, measuring about 2.5 cm in diameter, and featuring a small peak at the top. The composition included a hōjicha cream centre encased in mochi and coated in cocoa powder.

On the palate, the external cocoa coating imparted an initial subtle bitterness before reaching the remarkably soft and tender mochi, providing sweetness for each piece. The mochi effortlessly gave way to the smooth, unsweetened, and creamy hōjicha centre, which exuded a rich roasted scent and a light flavour despite its robust aroma. With four pieces in each bag, it was a suitable quantity, ensuring the subtlety of the hōjicha flavour remained intact. The impeccable textures and the classic pairing of hōjicha and chocolate, where the latter enhanced the former, made these mochi truffes a worthwhile indulgence.

This Bourbon Mochi Truffe Chocolate Kagabō Hōjicha Latte contained 87 g or 8 pieces (4 pieces x 2 bags). It was produced in Japan and purchased in Hong Kong in 2023.
