This is the Morinaga Hi-Chew Premium Shimizu White Peach. It featured juice from shimizu white peaches, known as the ‘Queen of Peaches’ from Okayama Prefecture. These peaches are prized gifts in Japan, available for only a few weeks from late July to early August. Their distinctive white and pink appearance has earned them the name shimizu, meaning ‘clear water’.

The candy had an irregular, somewhat spherical shape, measuring about 1.5 cm in diameter, and having a subtle pink, almost white, hue. It featured an external coating containing shimizu peach juice powder around a taffy interior, and emitted a sweet aroma reminiscent of white peaches.
Upon biting into it, the compressed powdered coating quickly dissolved, releasing an intensely fragrant, sweet white peach flavour with minimal acidity. The powdered coating carried the majority of the peach flavour, while the taffy core contributed a subtle acidity, balancing the sweetness and creating an increasingly juicy sensation reminiscent of white peach nectar. Overall, the combination of intense yet authentic fresh flavours and varied textures made these candies highly satisfying, and certainly worth considering for repurchases.
This Morinaga Hi-Chew Premium Shimizu White Peach contained 35 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2023.
