This is the Meiji Poifull, a jelly bean-shaped gummy akin to the Kasugai Tsubu Gumi, rating a 3 out of 5 on Meiji’s softness-to-hardness scale.
It featured an even mix of four flavours: grape (14 pieces), lemon (14 pieces), kiwi (15 pieces), and raspberry (14 pieces). The majority of the jellybeans were typically shaped, with a few lucky strawberry ones being heart-shaped.
Grape. The pastel purple coating gave way to a translucent red-purple gummy, offering a sweet grape flavour with a hint of acidity. Each chew released a juicy, balanced grape flavour, reinforcing the usual excellence of Meiji’s grape gummies.
Lemon. With a bright yellow exterior and translucent yellow interior, the lemon flavour presented a sweet and mellow taste countered by a sourer punch from the gummy centre. It delivered the flavour of sour lemon juice without the usual zestiness of its rind.
Kiwi. The pastel green coating encased a deeper green gummy, providing a bright kiwi flavour with a vibrant acidity. While capturing the tropical fruitiness of kiwi flesh, it differed from the Kasugai version in its shorter chew time and more tart flavour.
Raspberry. Featuring a pastel pink coating and pink interior, this flavour offered a sweet raspberry taste on the outside and a tart, intense raspberry taste on the inside, akin to fresh raspberry juice.
While these jelly bean-shaped gummies were delightful, we found the firmer texture and more intricate fruity taste of the Kasugai Tsubu Gumi to be superior.
This Meiji Poifull contained 80 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Hong Kong in 2024.
