Having found a decent and competitively priced pork roll at The Hot Bread Shop, we decided to stop by Tony’s Bakery for a pandan waffle, another staple of Vietnamese bakeries.
2024
Coconut Pandan Waffle (1 for $3.00)
The waffle had a visible pandan presence, but the flavour was more subdued than expected, with the coconut being the most prominent. It was slightly crispy on the outside and dense and chewy on the inside, with shredded coconut adding a contrasting texture. While it wasn’t bad and offered a nostalgic taste, it’s not something we’d crave unless we had grown up with it.
Bánh Tiêu ($1.50)
This hollow doughnut, with sesame seeds on the interior, had a dry, bready texture and a subtle savoury spiced quality. However, it lacked the slight chewiness found in the version from A & A Cake Shop, which we found more enjoyable.

This is Tony’s Bakery, a second Cabramatta location of the bakery known for its bánh mì.
The second location offered bánh mì alongside custard puffs, which were exclusive to this branch and appeared to be particularly popular.
Custard Puffs ($10.00 for 12, $20.00 for 26)
The pieces contained an equal mix of bear and fish shapes and were made fresh to order, arriving still hot. When eaten hot, the exterior remained relatively soft, while the interior custard was molten, gooey and almost liquid, with a rich eggy sweetness. The batter had a more cake-like texture and flavour than the thinner, more tender exterior of those previously tried at Emperor’s Cream Puffs, which closed in mid-2026.
After cooling slightly, the exterior became noticeably crisper, creating greater textural contrast against the still-gooey, liquid custard centre. We preferred the increased contrast after cooling, although the freshly made texture was also enjoyable.
Overall, Tony’s Bakery was defined by its bánh mì offering and branch-exclusive custard puffs, with the latter providing the more distinctive reason to visit this location. These were a good alternative to Emperor’s Cream Puffs and were preferred to Delimanjoo for their richer custard and more substantial batter.
