Shiny Apple Juice Ōrin

This is Shiny Apple Juice Ōrin, made from 100% Ōrin apples cultivated in Aomori Prefecture.

Ōrin apples—developed in 1952 at the Aomori Apple Research Station through a cross between Golden Delicious and Indo—are Japan’s third most widely produced apple variety. Known for their pale yellow skin and moderate sweetness, they are often used in both fresh consumption and juicing.

The juice had an opaque yellow hue and a mellow aroma reminiscent of stewed apples or apple pie filling. When consumed chilled, the flavour profile was immediately soft and floral, followed by a clean, juicy sweetness mid-sip that deepened across the palate into a rounded, aromatic finish. The acidity was minimal yet the overall flavour remained bright and refreshing. Despite the juice’s cloudy appearance, the mouthfeel was smooth and fluid—comparable to clear apple juice in texture, without pulpiness or viscosity. The aftertaste lingered gently with a fresh, sweet impression of ripe apples.

After enjoying the PET bottle version in Sydney, the glass bottle version was purchased while visiting the Tōhoku region in Japan. It had the same characteristics of a clean, smooth apple juice with gentle floral sweetness and low acidity, showcasing the delicate, well-rounded character of Ōrin apples.
