This is the Nippon Yell Dried Fruit Kumamoto Dekopon, made from dekopon grown in Kumamoto Prefecture, dried and candied.

Each piece featured segmented slices of dekopon, ranging from 3 to 4 cm at their widest, with a vibrant gradient of bright to dark orange hues and a thin coating of crystallised sugar. They emitted a sweet citrus aroma, free of sharpness or acidity. The exterior was dry and firm but yielded easily, releasing intensely sweet dekopon juice with a hint of juicy acidity midway through each bite. The membranes encasing the juice vesicles contributed a pleasant chewiness. The rind offered a firmer, chewier texture and introduced a bold zestiness, complemented by a slight bitterness in the finish. Additionally, the release of natural oils from the rind created a mild tingling sensation on the tongue after a few pieces. The combination of the dekopon’s vibrant sweet and sour notes, balanced by a subtle bitterness, made this a tasty snack worth repurchasing.

This Nippon Yell Dried Fruit Kumamoto Dekopon contained 17 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia and Tōkyō, Japan in 2024.
