This is the Ragueneau Patissier’s Apple Sticks, a baked apple pie made with apples from Aomori Prefecture, preserved in syrup and wrapped with a layer of sponge cake.

Each box contained eight individually sealed apple sticks.

Each stick measured approximately 15 x 4 x 1.5 cm, featuring a golden brown exterior with open ends and three slits on top, exposing the apple filling.

While ready to eat as is, the packaging recommended reheating in the oven for a crispy or saku saku texture (160ºC for 3 minutes). Reheating produced a light, flaky pastry, neither greasy nor dry, that yielded easily to the softer sponge cake interior. The apple filling provided a moderate sweetness (3.5/5) with slightly more restrained tart notes (2.5/5) and was generous in quantity, with a mix of smaller, softer chunks and larger pieces that retained a gentle crunch. The syrup soaked into the sponge cake, adding balanced moisture without making the pastry overly sweet.
Overall, this apple pie offered a delightful apple flavour and an array of complementary textures, making it well worth trying fresh from the oven at their Appli store inside APPLIESE in Hirosaki Station, as well as repurchasing as a souvenir.
This Ragueneau Patissier’s Apple Sticks contained 8 servings. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Aomori, Japan in 2024.
