This is the UHA Mikakutō Mucchuri Gumi x Skál, a collaboration that transforms Skál, Japan’s first carbonated dairy beverage (introduced in Miyazaki Prefecture in 1972 by Minami Nihon Rakuno Kyodo), into a gummy treat.
Each piece was an opaque beige, shaped like a milk bottle, and measured approximately 2.5 x 1.4 x 0.8 cm. The gummies emitted a sweet, tangy aroma reminiscent of yoghurt beverages like Asahi Calpis. Upon tasting, the gummies offered a firm, “hard” texture, creating a satisfying bite with a delightful plump resistance that didn’t break cleanly with each chew (rating 5 out of 5 on Meiji’s scale of gummy softness to hardness). The sweet and sour ‘white soda’ notes of the original beverage started with a subtle sweetness but became more vibrant with a juicy acidity after a few chews, revealing familiar flavours with slightly creamy yet non-milky lemony undertones.
Overall, these gummies were refreshingly flavoured with a satisfyingly firm texture, making them a product well worth repurchasing.
