This is the Machi Machi Watermelon Yogurt Green Tea (regular, $8.50, less sweet, fixed ice; +$1.50 for kanten pearls). The drink consisted of a green tea base mixed with watermelon juice and yogurt, similar to fermented milk beverages like Yakult or Calpis.
It had a red-to-beige gradient, with toppings settled at the bottom. Served chilled and stirred, the watermelon flavour came through immediately, offering a natural, freshly juiced taste with subtle hints of watermelon flesh—no syrupy sweetness. The green tea base was prominent, adding a floral jasmine note, and provided a notable astringency together with the yogurt. The yogurt’s natural acidity enhanced the watermelon’s juiciness without introducing strong dairy notes. Instead, the tangy yogurt flavour appeared subtly in the finish, while the kanten jelly added bouncy pops of chewiness that complemented the fruitiness.
Overall, it tasted like a refined, watermelon-flavoured Calpis with a fresher, lighter feel due to the green tea. It was a refreshing and well-balanced drink, ideal for summer.
