This is the Jyōboshi Takeuchi Seitaisho Aomori Fruit Jelly Apple Jewel, made with apple paste from Kōgyoku (Jonathan) apples grown in Gonohe Town, Aomori Prefecture.
Each jelly was encased in a rubber balloon, measuring 3.5 cm in diameter. When pierced with a toothpick, it released a round, plump jelly, expanding slightly to about 4 cm in diameter.
The jelly had a smooth, oval shape with a cloudy beige hue, speckled with darker flecks of apple. It emitted a sweet and tart apple aroma. On tasting, it delivered an immediate bright, sweet apple juice flavour, reminiscent of freshly pressed apples. The jelly had a firm, chewy texture, offering slight resistance when bitten—well set rather than the melting consistency of some softer Japanese jellies. Small apple bits within the jelly provided a crisp, slightly tangy flavour, akin to apple skin, which emerged in the latter half of the bite and lingered briefly for a refreshing finish.
Overall, these jellies provided a unique format while capturing the fresh, sweet-tart flavour of Kōgyoku apples.
