This is the Araya Seafood Goma Monogatari.
It consisted of thin strips of dried squid sandwiching a layer of either gold or black sesame caramel. Each strip measured 10 cm in length and 3 mm in thickness, with each layer contributing about 1 mm.
On tasting, the dried squid had mellow oceanic notes and a tender texture, offering a savoury base that complemented the soft sweetness and gentle crunch of the sesame. The combination created a classic sweet-savoury flavour profile that was irresistibly moreish. The gold sesame had a mild nuttiness, whereas the black sesame provided a richer, more pronounced contrast. While both were enjoyable, the black sesame stood out as the preferred option. Regardless, both variations were delicious and worth repurchasing as a quick and satisfying snack.
