Nippon Yell Dried Fruit Chiba Housui Pear

This is the Nippon Yell Dried Fruit Chiba Hōsui Pear, made from Hōsui nashi grown in Chiba Prefecture, dried and candied.

Each piece varied in size, measuring 2–3 cm at its widest, with hues ranging from yellow to dark yellow. The aroma was mild and sweet but indistinct. The exterior was dry and firm, coated with sugar for an initial sweetness, but the texture quickly softened, resembling lightly cooked apples or pears. As the pieces rehydrated in the mouth, they developed a fleshy consistency similar to cooked pome fruit. The initial sweetness deepened into the distinct, rich, honeyed juiciness characteristic of a ripe nashi pear, with low acidity. The subtle graininess of fresh nashi remained, adding an additional textural element.

These soft-dried and candied Hōsui pear pieces offered a delicious way to enjoy the fruit out of season.

This Nippon Yell Dried Fruit Chiba Housui Pear contained 18 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Tōkyō, Japan in 2024.
