This is the Sakuratoen Furufuru Sakuranbo Jelly, featuring large-grade Sato Nishiki cherries grown in Yamagata Prefecture, Japan’s largest cherry-producing region.
Each cup contained 15 whole Sato Nishiki cherries, each approximately 2 cm in diameter, generously filling the cup from top to bottom. The cherries had a bright, blushed hue, while the jelly was a translucent pink.
On tasting, the cherries, with their stems still attached, had a firm texture and a smooth, glossy sheen reminiscent of fresh fruit. The inner flesh was medium-soft, surrounding the pit. The flavour of both the cherries and the jelly components was fresh and true to the fruit, delivering the characteristic balance of sweetness and tartness. The jelly had a delicate, melt-in-the-mouth texture that complemented the fruit, enhancing its vibrant flavour.
Compared to a cheaper brand, this version contained noticeably more fruit, making it a superior choice. A worthwhile purchase that would be repurchased.
