Imuraya Yawamochi Ice Kuri Zukushi

This is the Imuraya Yawamochi Ice Kuri Zukushi, or Chestnut Delight.

It featured five pieces of chestnut mochi and chestnut paste layered atop chestnut ice cream, with a core of chestnut paste containing diced chestnut.

The ice cream presented a gentle, mellow sweetness with an earthy, nutty warmth characteristic of chestnut. The chestnut paste, retaining a soft and creamy texture even when frozen, offered a rich chestnut flavour with a subtle graininess reminiscent of roasted chestnuts. The diced chestnut pieces, lightly candied, provided a pleasant chew and the most pronounced sweetness of the ensemble, enhancing the contrast in texture. The mochi, made from a blend of shiratamako and rice flour, delivered a smooth, tender chew and a faint chestnut note that grounded the composition without excess sweetness.

Overall, a refined celebration of chestnut in both flavour and texture — layered, nuanced, and deeply satisfying. Worth repurchasing.

This Imuraya Yawamochi Ice Kuri Zukushi contained 130 mL. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2025.
