This is the Jipyeong Chestnut Makgeolli, featuring makgeolli flavoured with domestic chestnut concentrate (0.29%), with an alcohol content of 5%.

The beverage presented with an opaque beige hue, with fine sediment settled at the base. Agitation brought the sediment into suspension, creating a uniform, lightly clouded body. Aroma opened with a gentle roasted chestnut note, soft and rounded, with low to moderate intensity.
Initial contact delivered light effervescence and a smooth, slightly creamy mouthfeel. An immediate earthy sweetness emerged, restrained rather than sugary, carried through the rice base. Through the mid-palate, the chestnut profile developed into a more defined roasted character, deepening without becoming heavy. The sediment contributed a faint starchy undertone, integrating into the body rather than disrupting it. Texture remained cohesive, with the carbonation providing lift against the otherwise dense liquid. Towards the finish, the chestnut note shifted into a creamier expression, resembling a moist roasted chestnut rather than a dried or powdery form. Alcoholic undertones were present but controlled, adding warmth without bitterness. The finish remained soft, with no drying effect.
Overall, a roasted chestnut makgeolli with restrained sweetness, cohesive sediment integration, and a soft, non-drying finish.
This Jipyeong Chestnut Makgeolli contained 750 mL. It was produced in South Korea and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2026.
