This Nespresso Variations Paris Praline is the second of three Paris inspired coffees released in late 2018. It’s a hazelnut flavoured coffee ‘reminiscent of a praline dessert’.
It uses the Livanto as the base, has an intensity of 6 out of 13 and comes in a scalloped pink and white capsule. As with the Paris Macaron, it contained no natural extract from hazelnut and relies on other natural flavourings to achieve the hazelnut flavour.
The espresso was a translucent dark brown colour with a sweet nutty hazelnut aroma that recalled the Nespresso Vertuo Hazelino that we tried at a kiosk almost a year ago. Made as a long black with a 1:1 water to espresso ratio and served hot, the malty notes of the Livanto base came through ahead of a mild acidity with a distinct hazelnut flavour emerging in the body that builds in nutty intensity and combines with the caramelised finish of the Livanto for a delicious praline-like experience that lingered pleasantly on the palate.
The coffee recalled the Nespresso Vertuo Hazelino both in aroma and flavour, but with a more pronounced caramel sweetness. Overall, the balanced caramelised nuttiness of the coffee makes it one of the most accessible and delicious flavoured coffees. The addition of milk would give a rounder flavour, but this is a coffee that’s easily appreciated black.
This Nespresso Variations Paris Praline contained 10 x 5.3 g capsules. It was produced in Switzerland and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2018.
