This StrangeLove Lo-Cal Soda Yuzu from Japan follows on from our first foray into the mandarin flavour. It is flavoured with yuzu juice and contained no artificial flavours of sweeteners.
The beverage was clear with a sweet yuzu juice aroma and a prominent carbonation. Served chilled, bright notes of the yuzu came through with the subtlest hint of sweetness before a mild acidity came through in the body head of the bubbles making way for a clean finish. Overall, the yuzu flavour was very muted and draws on the juice of the flesh itself and so avoids any zestiness from the rind that gave a hint of bitterness for yuzu’s usual edge. The result is a delicate yuzu flavour that recalled the juice of the fruit squeezed into sparkling water with a little sweetener – it’s enjoyable and refreshing but not quite the desired intensity.
