This Gong Cha Pearl Milk Tea with Milk Foam ($9.50) (no ice, less sweet) was part of a series released to commemorate the new Wonka movie on December 8, 2023. Sold in a limited edition bottle shaped like a gingerbread man, complete with three buttons on the belly, a cheeky face, and a Christmas scarf.
The beverage, initially an opaque light tan color with tapioca pearls at the base and topped with milk foam, had a moderate black tea flavour with balanced sweetness and minimal astringency before mixing. Once combined with the milk foam, the drink took on an incredibly rich and creamy mouthfeel, surpassing even the milk-based offerings from Bubble Nini Tea. However, the tea notes became somewhat diluted, and the sweetness of the drink became overwhelming. In summary, while the drink was decent, there are better pearl milk teas available in Sydney. The bottle, however, offered a reasonably sized portion compared to those from Machi Machi.
