This is the Phoenix Dancong Oolong Milk Tea ($6.90, +$0.90 for large, +$1.00 for herbal jelly, no ice, normal sweetness) from Tea Republic.
The beverage had an opaque beige hue with spoonfuls of grass jelly resting at the base. Consumed chilled, the rich aroma of the heavily oxidised oolong was immediately evident at the start of each sip. This aroma combined with the milk to deliver an immensely rich, chocolate-like flavour with depth from the subtle floral notes of the oolong. The oolong base gave the milk tea a very rounded, smooth body. Although a slight astringency emerged in the second half of the sip, it remained pleasant. The herbal jelly added a subtle sweetness and mellow herbal flavour that complemented the milk tea’s sweetness, while providing a soft, slurpable texture. The phoenix dancong oolong as a base for milk tea was worth reordering.
