This is the Bilpin Apple Juice that we picked up during our visit to Bilpin but also widely available in green grocers acoss Sydney. It is 100% juice with no preservatives, no added sugar, no added water, and no concentrates. The juice is produced by crushing a blend of various types of apples, storing the crushed juice in large tanks for two days to allow the sediment to settle, then filtered to make it crystal clear and pasteurised before bottling.
The juice was a clear pale golden colour with a crisp and lightly sweet aroma of fresh apples. Served chilled, the flavour of the juice reflected the process of extraction: it has the same taste as juice straight from a fresh apple minus the flesh. The flavour was bold with a crisp and clean sweetness that was balanced with gentle natural acidity. Critically, the juice was milder in both sweetness and apple flavour than juice from concentrate — but not watery or thin — making it more refreshing and a true pleasure to drink.
