This is the Kirin Namacha Hōji Sencha, made from roasted sencha and part of the same lineup as the original Namacha.
The tea was a translucent, slightly cloudy golden brown colour with a soft, roasted aroma. Served chilled, the hōjicha came through with a mellow nuttiness that swiftly deepened in the body with a very enjoyable natural sweetness ahead of the barest hint of astringency in the finish. The tea had a rich flavour, yet had a cleaner, lighter mouthfeel than most other bottled hōjicha. It was refreshing and elegant, recalling barley tea, yet with an even more restrained bitterness.
This Kirin Namacha Hōji Sencha contained 525 ml. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2021.
