With a preference for more roasted coffees, fruity coffees aren’t something I reach for typically. This Nespresso Rosabaya de Colombia, which we purchased as part of a sampler is an exception.
Rosabaya de Colombia is one of a few pure origin espresso pods offered by Nespresso. As the name suggests, the coffee hails from the highest region of Colombia with its aroma of red fruit accentuated by split roasting. On the intensity scale, it rates as a 6 out of 12.
The coffee is a translucent deep black-brown colour with a sweet, mellow aroma. Made as a long black with a 1:1 water to espresso ratio, prominent fruity and acidic notes of winey red berries like blackcurrants and cranberries persist with a pleasant sweetness throughout each sip with a smooth, fluid mouthfeel and leave a lingering fruity aftertaste. Overall, the flavour avoids the characteristic bitterness of more deeply roasted coffees, with its balanced fruity profile reminding of a coffee mixed with the sweet acidity of blackcurrant or cranberry juice.
