This is the JejuNFarn Jeju Hallabong Tea, a liquid tea concentrate made from 65% hallabong concentrate (comprising 50% Jeju-grown hallabong and 50% refined white sugar), created by grinding and crystallising whole hallabong. Hallabong is known as dekopon in Japan and sumo citrus in the West.
Each box contained 30 sachets, with each sachet holding 25 g of hallabong tea concentrate.
The concentrate had an orange hue and a thick consistency with visible specks of hallabong flesh and zest.
When prepared with 100 mL of water per sachet, the tea had a translucent orange colour and a mellow sweet hallabong aroma. Stirring constantly to keep the particles suspended, the hallabong flavour was immediately apparent, offering a mellow sweetness similar to a mandarin, but without the sharpness or pronounced acidity of oranges. Mid-sip, a gentle acidity developed, balancing the sweetness and moving away from mandarin-like associations. The finish included finely ground pulp and zest, which added a subtle, enjoyable texture and zestiness. Overall, the fresh, balanced sweetness and restrained acidity captured the quality of the hallabong fruit, making this tea well worth repurchasing.
