When I buy teas flavoured like baked goods, I’m never quite sure how it’ll manage to do that. After all, baked goods use so many different ingredients. With this Lipton Blueberry Muffin Tea, though, the flavour came through both in both taste and smell.
The tea is a tea bagged blend of black tea fannings with blueberry flavour crystals.
Steeping one tea bag in 200 mL of water at 85°C, the infusion was a clear deep red brown colour with the aroma of a good blueberry muffin right down to the fruity sweet and buttery cake crumbs. Upon tasting, though, the buttery notes are absent with fruity blueberry dominating the flavour. The gently sweet full bodied flavour of the black tea adds a pleasantly sweet complexity to the blueberry flavour that lingered as an aftertaste.
Adding 10 mL of milk and 1 teaspoon of brown sugar, the tea takes on a more rounded mouthfeel with the buttery notes of the blueberry muffin coming through as the bold black tea notes are rounded out. While the blueberry muffin flavour can be savoured both black and with milk, the addition of milk makes for a more enjoyable cup of tea.
This Lipton Blueberry Muffin Tea contained 20 tea bags. The tea originated in Kenya and Indonesia and was purchased in Kōbe, Japan in 2015.
