This is the Lupicia Cache-Cache, named after the French children’s game of hide-and-seek, and promising a playful mix of sweet and fruity notes.
The tea consisted of a black tea blend featuring sugar, orange flower, pink pepper, and flavourings.
Steeping one tea bag in 200 mL of water at 85ºC for 3 minutes yielded a clear red-brown infusion with a sweet, fruity aroma. When consumed hot, the tea opened with a mellow sweetness that enhanced the smooth mouthfeel, yet without a pronounced sugary taste despite the added sugar. The sip remained exceptionally smooth from start to finish, with bright fruity notes emerging in the body. These flavours resembled the tropical profiles of papaya or mango-flavoured black teas found in Lupicia’s catalogue but stood out for their remarkable smoothness, with almost no bitterness or astringency.
The “hide-and-seek” element perhaps lay in how these tropical notes were captured without the usual presence of dried fruit, seamlessly complementing the natural fruitiness of the black tea base. While enjoyable for its smooth, fruity character, the flavour profile was not distinct enough from other Lupicia teas to warrant a repurchase.
This Lupicia Cache-Cache contained 2.5 g x 10 tea bags. The tea was sourced from India, Vietnam and Kenya, packaged in Japan and purchased in Australia in 2025.
