Golden Sail Jasmine Pearl Tea

I came into possession of this Golden Sail Jasmine Pearl Tea when D’s mother cleared out her kitchen. The tea received a gold medal from the International Tea Convention in 2005.

The tea is a looseleaf of green tea rolled into pearls and scented with jasmine.

Steeping 6 g of looseleaf in 200 mL of water at 80ºC for 2 minutes, the infusion was a clear pale straw colour with a mellow jasmine aroma. Served hot, the same mellow notes of sweet jasmine came through at the head of each sip before a giving way to a light buttery green tea flavour towards the finish with a clean aftertaste.

Overall, the tea has a light and smooth mouthfeel with no bitterness, making it very easy to drink. Critically, it lacked body, tasting much like barely flavoured hot water in the first infusion when using double the usual amount of looseleaf with subsequent infusions impossible.

This Golden Sail Jasmine Pearl Tea contained 100 g. It was produced in China and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2010.
