We’ve been searching for a patê sô (a Vietnamese savoury puff pastry with a light, layered, and flaky exterior and a meat filling) in Cabramatta for some time. However, with A & A Cake Shop often closed unexpectedly (even on a Saturday) and usually running out of stock by late afternoon, we decided to try the first one we found at Daily Delicious Bakery.
Patê sô ($2.00)
This patê sô measured about 7 cm in diameter and 3 cm in height. The pastry layers were flaky on the top and sides, but the base was dense and poorly risen. The pork filling was slightly dry and underseasoned, lacking the crunch of water chestnuts we often enjoy in patê sô. An additional egg wash would have added more depth to the flavour. Overall, it was a rather lacklustre patê sô.
