The Hot Bread Shop, Cabramatta

This is The Hot Bread Shop, also known as Minh Hung Hot Bread, a long-standing bánh mì shop in Cabramatta known for its pricing and consistency.

2024

Pork Roll ($6.00)

The roll was substantial, approximately 15 cm by 7 cm, with a crisp shell and a light interior that compressed easily around the filling. The crumb receded on the palate, acting primarily as a structural base.

Fillings included three types of preserved pork, cucumber, coriander, and pickled carrot and daikon, with onion omitted. The vegetables were fresh and provided crunch, though the pickles leaned sweeter than the sharper acidity typically preferred. The pâté added richness, while the pork itself read slightly dry.

Roast Pork Roll ($6.00)

The roast pork (nem nướng) carried a bouncy texture with balanced seasoning—salt, mild spice, and light sweetness. It was cohesive, though less compelling than the standard pork roll. Pickles were generous and contributed both texture and contrast.

Crispy Pork Roll ($8.00)

The crispy pork was cut to order, producing a distinct crunch that contrasted with the fresh vegetables. This textural interplay defined the roll and elevated it above the others.

At this price point, the value remained a key factor. While flavour balance and heavier meat portions were still preferred at Marrickville Pork Roll, the pricing here positioned it as an easy repeat option.

2026

Each roll increased by $0.50 from 2024 levels, placing the standard pork roll at $6.50 and crispy pork at $8.50. This remained notably lower than the typical $8.00–10 range observed elsewhere.

Bánh Tiêu ($1.50)

This appeared intermittently despite prior visits. The structure was correct, with a sesame-coated exterior, though the interior leaned dense. Sweetness dominated, with limited savoury depth and minimal five-spice warmth, resulting in a flatter profile than stronger examples nearby.

Overall, The Hot Bread Shop offers bánh mì defined by strong structural bread and competitive pricing, strongest where texture—particularly in crispy pork—is emphasised.
