Established in 1952, Lan Fong Yuen stands as one of Hong Kong’s most historic cha chaan tengs. While its primary operation now resides within a building, the classic green dai pai dong-style stall is preserved.
The menu boasts popular selections like the pork chop bun, French toast, and chicken noodles. Lan Fong Yuen, however, is renowned as the birthplace of classic local beverages such as yuen yang and stocking milk tea, the latter of which drew us in for a visit.
Stocking Milk Tea (cold, 28 HKD/5.6 AUD). The exquisite smoothness of this Hong Kong milk tea caught us off guard. Its well-balanced sweetness and vibrant, bold black tea flavor without any bitterness surpassed our expectations. Previous encounters with mediocre versions (in Hong Kong and Sydney) had often featured a harshness that was noticeably absent in this rendition, undoubtedly making it the finest Hong Kong milk tea we’ve experienced.
After thoroughly enjoying their stocking milk tea, we would be keen to return and try their regular cha chaan teng fare when there is more space in our stomachs for a meal.
