Nissin, the company founded by the inventor of instant noodles, instant ramen, and Cup Noodles, is a ubiquitous brand in Japan. While foods under the Nissin brand are available in Australia, not many of the products sold at your average Asian grocery store are products produced by the Japanese parent company, with most produced in Singapore or Thailand. Each styrofoam cup contained dehydrated noodles, beef curry and potatoes. The noodles are prepared by adding hot water to the marked line, covering for 3 minutes, then stirring.
After preparing the noodles, there’s not much liquid soup that you’d ordinarily expect from instant noodles. Rather, the dehydrated curry sitting at the top of the cup takes on a thick consistency like real curry with small bits of beef, with a prominent aroma of Japanese curry. A quick stir brought up the noodles, which have the same al dente texture of other Cup Noodles and carry the thick curry well with every bite. The flavour of the curry is lightly sweet as is typical of Japanese curries with a gentle heat and the squares of potato are soft and taste just like a real potato. Overall, this is a very comforting and satisfying snack.
