The noodles featured a noodle cake accompanied by toppings of dehydrated soy meat and vegetables (corn kernels Chinese cabbage, shallots, chilli).
Upon rehydrating the noodles with boiling water up to the designated line inside the cup for 3 minutes, the soup base transitioned into an opaque red-orange hue, emitting an aroma reminiscent of Japanese curry. On tasting, the associations with Japanese curry persisted—though not overtly, it served as our closest point of reference for its flavour. However, it fell short in delivering on the ‘chilli’ aspect of its name, providing spice but no discernible heat despite the presence of chilli flakes. The ‘tomato’ aspect was subtle, lacking umami, sweetness, or acidity. Overall, the soup base failed to fulfil the promise of a chilli tomato flavour.
However, the overall general spiced savoury flavour was enjoyable and well-supported by the viscous consistency of the soup base that clung to the curly noodles , which maintained a slightly al dente texture characteristic of Cup Noodles.
