Kuze Fuku Zunda An Butter

This is the Kuze Fuku Zunda An Butter, a seasonal flavour in the company’s an butter series.

Made with domestically produced edamame, it aimed to capture the flavour of zunda, a speciality of Sendai. The spread had an opaque green-yellow hue and a distinctly sweet, beany aroma characteristic of zunda.

When served on shokupan, the spread had a mostly smooth texture with slight chunkiness. The zunda flavour was immediately noticeable and remained prominent throughout each bite, delivering a mellow, beany edamame taste with subtle hints of vanilla. The flavour held its own against the shokupan, complementing the earthy notes of the wheat flour. Overall, it was an authentic representation of zunda, closely resembling traditional zunda paste but with a touch more sweetness. While a worthwhile souvenir, it may not be suited for regular repurchase.

This Kuze Fuku Zunda An Butter contained 120 g. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Sendai, Japan in 2024.
