Glico Pocky Chocolate and Glico Giant Pocky Chocolate

The original flavour of a snack food is rarely met with fanfare. For one, it’s widely available. To spice it up a tad, though, this is a comparison between the original and the giant versions of the chocolate Pocky.

Glico Pocky Chocolate is a biscuit stick coated in chocolate. It’s a slightly darker chocolate than milk chocolate (although a separate ‘bittersweet’ Pocky exists). The sweetness and the darker chocolate goes well with the biscuit stick, which is the perfect thickness for maximum crunch.

Glico Giant Pocky Chocolate is also a biscuit stick coated in chocolate, but 2x the width and height and 1.5x the length of the original.

As you the photo shows, it’s really quite big! The scaling up on the original Pocky, however, also changes the taste and texture of the chocolate Pocky. In the giant Pocky, the biscuit stick is more crumbly than crunchy and the darkness of the chocolate is lost amidst the extra biscuit as the thickness of the chocolate coating remains the same as in the original.

While Giant Pocky is fun, the original Pocky holds its own. It’s clear why it remains the most popular.

The pack of Glico Pocky Chocolate contained 9 packs each with 7 pieces. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Hong Kong in 2015. The box of Glico Giant Pocky Chocolate contained 22 bags each with 1 piece. It was manufactured in Japan and purchased in Ōsaka, Japan in 2014.
