Glico Pocky Summer Salt Milk Chocolate

20160417-DSC06322

Pocky comes not only in regional flavours, but also seasonal flavours. For summer, they released a Glico Pocky Summer Salt Milk Chocolate. Whereas standard Chocolate featured dark chocolate enrobing the biscuit stick, Summer Salt Milk Chocolate featured salt dusted over a milk chocolate mousse enrobing the biscuit stick.

The salt crystals on the milk chocolate are tiny, yet give a slight crunch before quickly dissolving to create a strange disconnect between what should be a sweet snack, but tastes salty. Once the milk chocolate of previous sticks begins to linger on your tongue, though, the salt mixes with the creamy milk chocolate to create a moreish flavour much like a sweeter version of Lindt’s Touch of Sea Salt or a chocolate-dipped pretzel. Overall, salt enhances the sweetness of the chocolate here, much like how the Japanese like to add salt to watermelon to enhance its taste.

The Summer Salt Milk Chocolate is about 2 cm shorter in length than the standard Pocky, although they have the same thickness of biscuit and mousse.

The box of Glico Pocky Summer Salt Milk Chocolate contained 2 packs each with 15 pieces. It was manufactured in Japan, and purchased in Sydney, Australia in 2016. It is a seasonal edition for summer.
