Glico Pretz Salad

Glico Pretz Salad is the final triad making up the triad of mainstay Pretz flavours along with Tomato Pretz and Glico Pretz Roast. It’s taken a while for it to make its way on to this space because I’ve long considered its flavour very similar, but inferior, to Tomato Pretz which I purchase instead.

Flavouring something as ‘salad’ with no hint as to the components of the salad from which it finds inspiration is a confusing start. Salads can take on numerous different flavours, using countless combinations of ingredients and dressings. Indeed, Glico Japan is aware of this as there’s a Glico Pretz Caesar Salad. Perhaps it’ll be a parsley and carrot salad like in the Calbee Jagariko Salad?

There’s a pleasant umami-rich savoury smell that also came through in the flavour with a balanced hint of sweetness and a pleasant vinegary flavour. The flavour recalled croutons in a salad rather than any single vegetable and is without the sweet tang of tomatoes in Glico Pretz Tomato or the sour lime notes of Glico Pretz Larb. Indeed, it’s similarity to Glico Pretz Tomato means that this Salad Pretz has a very moreish flavour, which is enhanced by the savoury – rather than plain – crispy biscuit stick and the pleasant savoury aftertaste.

This Glico Pretz Salad contained 2 packs each with ~20 pieces. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Ōsaka, Japan in 2015.
