This is the Moriyama Yuan Pudding Minori Peach, created by Café Moriyama, part of the ryokan Gensen Yuan in Tsuchiyu Onsen, Fukushima Prefecture. The pudding is enriched with natural salt from the local hot spring, said to enhance the richness of the egg and the sweetness of the yolk in particular.
After the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 devastated Tsuchiyu Onsen, the ryokan’s staff offered puddings to evacuees, bringing smiles in the face of adversity. This experience inspired their mission to deliver happiness through delicious puddings as part of the recovery effort. We purchased this pudding (¥450) from the Tourist and Products Centre near the west exit of JR Fukushima Station.

Presented in a glass jar, the pudding featured two distinct layers: a silky custard pudding filling the bottom two-thirds and a lightly set peach-flavoured jelly on top, complete with segments of yellow peach flesh. From the first bite, it was clear this pudding was exceptional. The rich egg yolk flavour was delivered in an incredibly silky, barely set, jiggly texture that melted instantly on the tongue, creating a creamy and deeply satisfying eggy taste. The peach jelly provided a sweet, fruity counterpoint with a gentle bite, but the pudding itself was the undeniable highlight, leaving a lasting, impeccable impression.
This Moriyama Yuan Pudding Minori Peach was a single serving. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Fukushima, Japan in 2024.
