Beniya Miso Senbei

This is the Beniya Miso Senbei, a regional senbei purchased from the grocer attached to the train station at Iizaka Onsen.

Each bag contained ten pieces. Each piece measured approximately seven centimetres in diameter and was shaped like a semi-circle, formed by folding the original round senbei in half and gently curving it to resemble a gyōza. The senbei had a golden-brown hue and a mild savoury aroma.

On tasting, it had a very dense crunch. The initial flavour was sweet, but as one continued eating, the subtle complexities and savoury notes of miso and soy sauce emerged and lingered, particularly in the finish. It was a simple, affordable and enjoyable snack, well worth repurchasing if in the area.

This Beniya Miso Senbei contained 10 pieces. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Fukushima, Japan in 2025.
