Aroma opened with a distinctly savoury chicken bouillon profile supported by garlic and onion powder notes.
Initial contact delivered an immediate and highly satisfying crunch generated by the dense kettle-fried structure, thicker cut, and deeply corrugated ridges. The opening flavour profile centred on savoury garlic and onion seasoning with restrained saltiness. Texture established itself as the dominant strength of the product from the outset.
Through the mid-palate, the savoury profile developed further into a pronounced chicken bouillon character dominated by yeast extract and seasoning enhancers. The association with fried chicken derived more from the chip’s crunchy, batter-like structural qualities than from any convincing poultry flavour. Texture remained exceptionally crisp and rigid throughout chewing.
Towards the finish, the bouillon profile became increasingly overt, with garlic, onion, and MSG-like savoury notes lingering heavily across the palate. The aftertaste carried prolonged seasoning residue alongside moderate oil coating, extending the artificial savoury character well beyond the final bite.
While the chip texture itself was excellent, the flavour profile ultimately fell into many of the common shortcomings associated with chicken-flavoured chips in Australia and New Zealand, relying heavily on generic savoury enhancer profiles rather than conveying anything recognisably fried chicken-like.
Overall, a kettle-fried ridged potato chip with a rising savoury seasoning progression and exceptionally persistent crunchy textural development, resulting in an outstanding textural experience undermined by an overly artificial chicken bouillon flavour profile.
