This is the Taiyōdō no Mugi Senbei. Inspired by nambu senbei, these crackers were first created in Fukushima in 1927. They have since become a well-known and beloved confectionery in the region, cherished for their simple and timeless flavour that has remained unchanged over the years.

Each package contained four individually sealed bags, each holding two crackers.

Each cracker measured approximately 8.5 cm in diameter and 3 mm in thickness. Both sides were smooth and hard to touch, with the underside of each was imprinted with the brand name, 太陽堂.

The crackers featured a subtle buckwheat aroma and a dense, firm texture resembling a tightly compressed powder. They provided a satisfyingly audible crunch, yet lightness on the palate. The buckwheat and peanut notes were immediately apparent, delivering a rich, aromatic profile that evolved with a hint of sweetness as one continued eating, and concluded with a mellow, savoury nutty finish. These simple yet expertly crafted crackers showcased the quality of their base ingredients, making them both satisfying and easy to enjoy.
This Taiyōdō no Mugi Senbei contained 4 bags x 2 pieces. It was produced in Japan and purchased in Fukushima, Japan in 2024.
